The NREL report on water disinfection in developing countries has a comparison of the effectiveness of different water disinfection technologies in the appendix. The report indicates that while solar water pasteurization is the most expensive of the disinfection techniques that are compared, it is also the most effective.
Other advantages of solar water pasteurization are that it requires little operator training and little maintenance.
Several versions of prototype solar water pasteurizers have been published in the literature. In addition, one system is commercially available. Mike Bellamy is working to publish the details of the system developed at Northwest Missouri State University. The paper includes a list of references to other solar water pasteurizer system. A link to the paper will be provided when it is available.
